Must Try - Hot Air Balloon, Hang gliding and Paragliding

Many travelers visit the Gold Coast unaware of the exciting adventures that await them just 30 minutes from the famous beaches. There are definitely many amazing things to do while you are at this part of the world. Here are some that you must try, in order to get the most of your visit.

Hot Air Balloon

Experience the breathtaking scenery of Mt Tamborine from a colourful Hot Air Balloon. Hot Air offers a variety of packages, the most popular one being a Scenic Ride with Champagne Breakfast.

The Escarpment Retreat is the closest accommodation on the mountain to the Canungra Tourist Information Centre, one of their many meeting points. They don’t allow their passengers to meet them at the launch site as they take off from different locations everyday. The site is decided on just before dawn and will depend on wind speed and direction.

Hang-gliding and Paragliding

If you are thrill seekers looking for some adventure, why not fly above Mt Tamborine and see Australia’s Gold Coast hinterland from the sky. Approved by the Hang Gliding Federation of Australia, Canungra Sky Sports offers a range of hang gliding and paragliding courses that are supervised by owner HGFA certified Chief Flight Instructor Lisa Bradley.

No flying experience or short of time? Tandem hang gliding and paragliding only requires 2 to 3 hours of your time plus your instructor will control the glider. These introductory courses are a great chance for you to learn and feel first hand how it is to fly.

Conveniently located, the Escarpment Retreat is one of the nearest hotels to the Mt Tamborine launch site on the western escarpment.

Rainforest Skywalk

Your trip to the Gold Coast will not be complete without going to south East Queensland’s longest canopy walk, the Tamborine Rainforest Skywalk. Featuring forest floor trails, high-tech steel bridges plus a forty metre cantilever bridge suspended thirty metres above the creek and forest underneath.

Learn about local animals, reptiles, birds plus local and indigenous Australian history at the Rainforest Eco Gallery. And if you need a snack before or after the forty-five minute walk, the Birdwing Café offers light food, sweet treats and coffee.

Horse Riding

To truly experience the beauty of Australia, explore Mt Tamborine’s paddocks and bushland on one of the horses of Tamborine Mountain Trail Rides.

Go on their 1.5 hour trail ride that’s suitable for beginners and keep an eye out for wallabies, koalas and kangaroos. Or if you would like to have a shorter experience, they also offer half-hour trail rides that are taken at a gentle walk.

Tree Top Challenge

Experience Australia’s 1st adventure park on top of trees at the Tree Top Challenge. Conquer their 85 challenges over nine acres of un-spoilt natural bushland. Featuring wire and rope challenges, ladders, suspended bridges and flying foxes.

If this all sounds too easy, you may want to try jumping off from a platform twelve metres above the ground below, in a full body harness, attached to a secured freefall device. This attraction called Sky Fall is their newest addition and it is the first of it’s kind in all of Australia.
